June 30th-July 11th 2024

The Canadian Rockies Motorcycle Expedition

Jagged peaks, shimmering glaciers, vibrant lakes, alpine meadows, dense forests and much more...!  This exceptional, 12-night Canadian Rockies Motorcycle Expedition includes:  Montana's Glacier National Park and its incredible Going to the Sun Road;  Alberta's Waterton Lakes,  Banff and Jasper National Parks;  the world-famous Icefields Parkway;  British Columbia's Cariboo Mountains,  Thompson Icefields,  Kamloops, the Northern Columbia River,  and Nelson on Kootenay Lake;  Northern Idaho's Sand Point at Lake Pend Oreille.  The Start/finish destination:  Missoula, MT.  Won't you come join us this June?!

About the Tour

The Canadian Rockies Motorcycle Expedition - June 30 - July 11, 2024

It has been since 2014 that FC Tours offered a trip that went north of the U.S. border (Great Midwest Maritimes Tour).  That trip started on the shores of Lake Erie in Ohio and took us all the way around the Great Lakes.  This time, we will begin our expedition in the Big Sky country of western Montana.

This will be a 12 (twelve) night tour, and our plan is to kick-off our expedition from Missoula, MT and head north to Whitefish, MT - near Glacier National Park.  We'll then cross the border from Montana into Alberta through Glacier N.P., and stop for the night in Waterton Lakes National Park, which is the Canadian side of Glacier National Park. From there, we will continue northbound into the incredible Canadian Rockies and spend two nights in Banff, Alberta.  One more northern push will get us into the Jasper region for our next night's destination.  From Jasper, Alberta, we will head westbound and enter British Columbia, where we will spend two nights in Kamloops, followed by one night in Nelson, British Columbia.  Leaving Nelson, we will cross back into the USA and enter northern Idaho, where we will spend two nights in Sand Point.  Our final day of this expedition will have us returning to Montana and our starting/ending location back in Missoula.

For those of you who have enjoyed our popular Big Sky Mountain High Tours (2010, 2011, 2020 and 2022), we believe our plans for the Canadian Rockies will be quite appealing to you!

The Tour Plan

  • Arrival Day:  Missoula, Montana - Our starting and ending location is Missoula, MT, the second largest city in Montana (behind Billings), located right on I-90.  We have visited Missoula many times as a nightly destination for our Big Sky Mountain High tours.  The tour will start and end there, and we will be using a larger, full service hotel that is easy to reach from the interstate and has ample free parking.
  • Day 1:  Whitefish, Montana - We will experience some of the more beautiful      sections of northwest, Montana, including the immense, Flathead Lake region, and end up in Whitefish, MT.  This will be our launching  point for exploring Glacier National Park, and then crossing into Alberta, Canada.
  • Day 2:  Waterton Lakes, Alberta -   Today we get to explore Glacier National Park, and it's spectacular Going to the Sun Road.  We will end the day in the Canadian section of Glacier, just north of the border, in the town of Waterton Lakes, AB.
  • Days 3 and 4:  Banff, Alberta - On day three we will continue northbound and work our way deeper into the Canadian Rockies and Banff National Park, where we will spend the next two nights (and a free day) in Banff, AB.
  • Day 5:  Jasper, Alberta - We will spend the day running north into Jasper National Park on the world-famous Icefields Parkway, which will take us from Banff/Lake Louise region up to Jasper, AB, where we will spend the night.
  • Days 6 and 7:  Kamloops, British Columbia - Leaving Jasper, we head west and cross the Continental Divide and enter British Columbia.  Skirting the Thompson Icefield and running along the Thompson River, we will gradually turn southwest and stop for the night in Kamloops, BC, where we will spend two nights (and a free day).
  • Day 8:  Nelson, British Columbia - Today we will turn eastbound, and enjoy a beautiful ride that will not only include some high elevation passes, but also a short ferry ride across the Columbia River.  Our ride continues along  the east shore of the Columbia before we roll into the wonderful town of Nelson, BC for one night at a lakeside resort.
  • Day 9 and 10:  Sand Point, Idaho - It's time to return back to the USA, and our beautiful route will take us south and cross into northern Idaho along scenic mountain and valley routes.  Our destination is Sand Point, Idaho, located at Lake Pend Oreille, which is the largest natural lake in Idaho, and rimmed by three mountain ranges.  FC Tours has offered routes through Idaho on previous tours, but this will be the first time we will have made it a nightly destination.  We will spend two nights (and a free day) in Sand Point, ID.
  • Day 11: Missoula, MT  - Our ride back into Montana is a scenic blast that follows the Clark Fork River and skirts the eastern flank of the Bitterroot Mountain Range through the vast Kootenai National Forest. Our ending point will be back at our starting point lodge in Missoula, MT.

Please note that the above-mentioned itinerary may be subject to change.
